How to Shed the Old and Embrace the New
As an old year is now behind us and a New Year of opportunities lies ahead, this is a wonderful time to create a list of what we’d like to shed with the passing year, and what we’d like to embrace in the upcoming one.
A year is not only the 365 1/4 days it takes for the earth to revolve around the sun, but is also a time-unit we can grasp as humans. It is a chance to leave all that did not work well for us and start anew – opportunities, projects, jobs, behaviors, relationships.
Of course, this can be done anytime, but somehow, it is easier at the end of each year to make a checklist – what did we accomplish? how did we do? which dreams did we realize and what dreams do we have for our future?
If we take the time to make this list, there is a better chance of achieving what we’d like to, in the coming year. The power of pinpointing our goals and objectives, and putting them down on paper, or on the screen – in a message to ourselves – is greater than the power of just thinking the thoughts, and then possibly forgetting them later.
This is the perfect time to contemplate: are there relationships that no longer work in your life? People who no longer need to be in it? Is the job you’re currently doing, the right one for you? Is there a better one you dream of getting? Is there a project you’d like to start? The time is NOW.
And as the old year turns into past and the future year turns into the present, it is also worth remembering that time is just an illusion – but it does help us live our lives in manageable chunks and to set targets – ones which will help us live a more inspired, happy and successful life.
Happy New Year 2018!
